A hand-made carpet is cleaned according to its material
A hand-made carpet is usually made from wool, silk, cotton or a mix of them, and each material behaves differently with water and heat. The fine dust works its way between the knots and settles at the base of the fibres, where it is not visible from above. Stains are absorbed quickly by hand-made carpets because natural yarn is porous and draws liquid in.
We start by hearing what you notice about your carpet, then agree a time and a handover method. We check the fibre type, the dyes and the condition of the fringe before we begin, and wash it in the way that suits its structure. Call or message us on WhatsApp, tell us your district and the type of carpet if you know it, and we agree the rest with you.

What does hand-made carpet cleaning cover?
These are the stages a hand-made carpet goes through during cleaning, depending on the fibre type and the condition of the carpet when we receive it.
- Fibre and dye check
Before starting we identify the yarn type and test the dye for colourfastness, because some natural dyes react to water or heat, and that check decides the cleaning method.
- Deep dust removal
Fine dust settled between the knots is not removed by sweeping alone, so the carpet is beaten before wetting to draw out what has built up at the base of the fibres.
- Face and back washing
The carpet is washed on both the face and the back, because dirt accumulates at the base of the knots on both sides and cleaning the surface alone is not enough.
- Fringe and edge treatment
The fringe is part of the structure of a hand-made carpet, not an add-on, and it is treated carefully because its threads are fine and tangle if neglected.
- Full rinse and drying
The carpet is rinsed fully so no residue remains in the fibres, then dried in a position that keeps the knots in shape and does not stretch the yarn.
- Post-wash check
After drying we check colour stability, yarn alignment and fringe condition before returning the carpet, so you receive it in the state you expect.
How do we start?
Three simple steps, and we take care of the rest.
Call or message us on WhatsApp
Tell us the service you need and your district.
Tell us about your carpet
Tell us what you notice in the carpet, whether it is stains, faded colour or a smell, and give us your district and the fibre type or origin if you know it.
We agree a time and handover
We agree a convenient time to collect the carpet, and fold it straight without heavy pressure so the yarn does not crease during transport.
Cleaning and return
We wash and dry the carpet then return it to you. Lay it flat on an even surface and check that the yarn and fringe are even before putting it back in place.
A service that comes to your door
- We come to youOur team arrives at your home with its equipment.
- One callCall or message us on WhatsApp and we arrange the rest.
- All your carpets and textiles with one teamWe clean hand-made carpets, Persian carpets, mosque carpets, wall-to-wall carpet, sofas, curtains and mattresses.
- Describe your carpet in your own wordsA call or a WhatsApp message is enough to explain what you notice, and we agree the next step.
One worry is that washing may damage the carpet's colours or stretch its yarn. Natural dyes vary in how stable they are, which is why the work starts with a dye check before any wetting, not after. Tell us what you notice and leave the assessment to us.

Questions about Hand-made carpet cleaning
How do I know my hand-made carpet needs a full wash and not just surface cleaning?
If the carpet looks dull even after sweeping, releases dust when you shake it, or carries a smell despite airing, these are signs that dust and dirt have reached the base of the fibres and surface cleaning alone will not remove them.
Does the summer heat affect a stored hand-made carpet?
Yes, storing a carpet in high heat with trapped humidity weakens natural fibres such as wool and silk over time, and a smell or change in yarn flexibility can follow. Washing before and after storage helps remove what has built up and restores the yarn.
What should I prepare before you collect my hand-made carpet?
Remove any furniture resting on the carpet and fold it straight along both lengths without pressing it too tightly. If you know the carpet's material or have a purchase document, mention it when you call, as it helps us decide the right cleaning method.
What changes the way a hand-made carpet is washed?
The yarn type has the greatest effect: wool tolerates water but needs slow drying, silk requires very gentle handling, and cotton is more forgiving. The type of dye, the age of the carpet, its size and the condition of the fringe are also factors we take into account before starting.
The fringe came back with some threads tangled, what should I do?
The fringe of a hand-made carpet is made from fine threads that sometimes tangle during transport or folding, and this does not mean the weave itself is damaged. Gently straighten the fringe by hand while it is dry, without pulling the threads hard. If you notice something that concerns you after delivery, call or message us and describe what you see.
