Stains and smells stay until steam arrives
Many surfaces and fabrics in a home hold dirt that ordinary scrubbing will not remove: tile grout, carpet fibres, the layers of a sofa. Where dust rises heavily in summer and rooms can stay closed for long stretches, that dirt builds up beneath the surface and turns into a smell or a dark patch.
Steam works with heat and pressure together: heat loosens grease and trapped grime, and pressure drives it out without soaking the fabric or leaving too much moisture behind. That is what makes steam well suited to things that resist ordinary cleaning, from ceramic tile to the face of a sofa to the gaps around window frames.
Tell us what you have noticed in your home, whether stains or smells, which district you are in, and which surfaces or items you would like cleaned, and we will agree a suitable time with you to get the work done.

What does steam cleaning cover?
These are the surfaces and materials that steam cleaning is used on in many homes, depending on what you notice and what you need.
- Upholstery and sofas
Woven fabrics trap dust and grease in their threads, and steam gets into them to loosen the dirt without soaking the inner padding.
- Rugs and carpet
The base of carpet fibres holds dirt that vacuum heads cannot reach, and steam goes deep into the threads to drive out what has settled there.
- Tiles and grout lines
The white lines between tiles go grey or brown over time because grease and dust settle into them, and steam with a brush clears them out.
- Kitchen and greasy surfaces
Grease built up on kitchen surfaces and in tile gaps resists cold cleaners, and steam melts it with heat before it is wiped away.
- Curtains and soft furnishings
Heavy curtains absorb dust and smells over long periods, and steam treats them in place without taking them down for a full wash.
- Bathrooms and damp surfaces
The seams around basins, taps and wet areas crack and darken with grime, and steam reaches those fine details without adding excess water.

One worry is that steam might damage fabrics or leave too much moisture. In practice every surface is different, and that is why we ask you about the type and condition of each item before we start, and treat each surface on its own terms.

Questions about Steam cleaning
How do I know that what I have needs steam cleaning specifically?
If a stain is old or a smell stays in fabric after ordinary cleaning, or if grout lines stay dark despite scrubbing, steam reaches those places because heat breaks down what has set into fibres and pores. Fresh dirt on smooth surfaces will often come off with a simple wipe.
Do I need to prepare the room before the appointment?
It helps to move small personal items, decorations and breakables away from the area to be cleaned, and to leave a clear path to the surfaces. If curtains or soft furnishings are fixed in place, you do not need to take them down beforehand, and we will agree on the details when you call.
What should I expect after the job, and will surfaces stay wet?
Hard surfaces such as tiles dry quickly after steam. Fabrics such as carpet and sofas need some time to dry depending on how thick the weave is and how well the room is ventilated. In the hot summer, running the air conditioning helps. Check the surface after it has dried fully to judge the result, as some stains look different when they are still damp.
What affects the scope of the job?
The work depends on the type and number of surfaces, how old and deep the staining is, and whether the fabrics are thick or thin. A large rug or a multi-layered sofa takes longer than a limited kitchen surface. We ask you about all of this when you call so we can agree on what suits your situation.
Does steam remove the smell from a sofa or just mask it?
Steam addresses the source of the smell in the fibres rather than covering it: heat breaks down the organic molecules trapped in the fabric, which are often what causes the smell. A deep, heavy odour may need more than one session depending on how far into the padding it has gone, and we assess that with you once we see the sofa.
Can steam clean curtains while they are still hanging?
Yes, heavy curtains are often treated with steam in place without being taken down. Fine dust and trapped smells in their folds come out with heat and pressure. Very sheer or delicate fabrics need an assessment before we start, and we agree on the right approach when you call.
Common mistake: is steam safe for every type of fabric?
No, some delicate fabrics or those with unstable dyes can be affected by heat. Applying steam to any surface without checking the material first is a common mistake. We ask about the type and condition of the item before starting, and if needed we test on a hidden area first.
