Grease blocks the filter and the air stays in your kitchen
The hood filter is a mesh panel, usually made of aluminium or coated metal, designed to trap grease particles before they reach the duct. Every time you cook, a thin film clings to the mesh. Over time it builds into a thick yellow crust that fills the gaps and stops air from moving through. When the draw weakens, smells and steam stay in the kitchen instead of leaving through the hood.
Tell us what you notice about your hood and which district you are in, and we will agree a time with you. We remove the filter, clear the grease from the mesh and put it back, so you notice the difference in airflow straight away.

What does hood filter cleaning cover?
These are the parts the cleaning covers, depending on the condition of your filter and what you notice about your hood's performance.
- The metal filter mesh
We take out the mesh and clear the hardened grease from its cells, because blocked cells are what stops air passing through and weakens the hood's draw.
- Filter brackets and rim
Grease collects on the metal brackets and rim that hold the filter, and we clean them at the same time, because any residue left there transfers back to the filter once it is replaced.
- Filter handle or release catch
We wipe the handle or metal catch that holds the filter in place, as grease builds up there and makes opening the filter harder next time.
- Control panel and buttons
We remove grease and marks from the hood's control panel and around the buttons, as rising steam deposits grease on them over time.
- Hood outer frame
We wipe the face frame of the hood to remove the grease and yellow haze that steam leaves on metal or painted surfaces.
- Airflow check
Once the filter is back we run the hood with you to listen to the motor and confirm air is moving freely; if the draw is still weak the cause may be elsewhere in the duct.
How do we start?
Three simple steps, and we take care of the rest.
Call or message us on WhatsApp
Tell us the service you need and your district.
Tell us what you notice
Tell us whether the draw is weak, smells are lingering, or the filter looks clogged, which district you are in, and what type of hood you have.
We agree a time
We settle on a time with you, and you clear the area under the hood of pots and items so there is room to reach the filter easily.
We start the work
We remove the filter, clean the grease from the mesh, frame and brackets, replace it, and run the hood with you to confirm the draw has returned.
A service that comes to your door
- We come to youOur team arrives at your home with its equipment.
- One callCall or message us on WhatsApp and we arrange the rest.
- Your whole kitchen with one teamWe clean ceiling extractors, restaurant hoods, kitchen appliances and full kitchens.
- Just describe what you noticeCall or message us on WhatsApp, tell us about the filter and your district, and we sort out the rest.
One worry is that removing the filter might break it or dislodge parts of the hood. Metal filters in domestic hoods are designed to come out and go back in at regular intervals, and we handle each type accordingly. Describe what you see, and leave the rest to us.

Questions about Hood filter cleaning
How do I know the filter is the problem and not the motor?
A clogged filter and a weak motor give similar symptoms, but the key difference is that you can see and touch the filter. If the mesh is packed with a hard yellow layer it is the likely cause. If the draw stays just as weak after the filter is cleaned, the source may be elsewhere and we will tell you when we run the hood.
Can I clean the hood filter myself at home?
Yes, the metal filter unclips with one hand in most domestic hoods, and some people rinse it under warm water. But grease that has hardened over a long time does not come off with a normal wash and needs a different approach to avoid damaging the fine mesh. We ask about the filter's condition when you call so we can agree on the right approach.
What does the summer heat do to the filter?
High ambient heat raises the kitchen temperature and thickens the steam during cooking, so grease vaporises faster and deposits more densely in the filter cells. Grease layers also harden more quickly in summer because of the rapid shift between cooking heat and the cooler air when the kitchen ventilates.
Do I need the filter cleaned if I do not cook very often?
Even with light cooking, grease builds up on the mesh over a long time and then dries and hardens. The longer the gap between cleans, the harder the layer is to remove. The more useful question is not how often you cook but when the filter was last opened and checked.
Does the type of filter change how it is cleaned?
Yes. A layered aluminium mesh filter is different from a round carbon filter, which is replaced rather than washed. Some hoods carry both types. When you call, tell us what the filter looks like and whether you can remove it, and we will agree on what suits your situation.
