Brass changes colour and dust is not the only reason
Brass oxidises over time, building up a dark or greenish layer known as tarnish. The fine dust that settles on every arm, crown and base speeds this process up. A simple wipe removes the surface dust but does not treat the oxidation, so the chandelier stays dull even after a basic clean.
Tell us what you see on your brass chandelier and which district you are in, and we agree a time with you. We begin by detaching the removable parts, treat each brass surface individually, and reassemble everything with care.

- Base and details
- Glass fittings
What does brass chandelier cleaning cover?
These are the parts the cleaning goes through, depending on the design of the chandelier, the condition of the brass and what you notice in it.
- Arms and branches
Removable arms are detached and the tarnish layer is treated from their surface, as they are the parts most exposed to settled dust and colour change.
- Crown and top fitting
The top body of the chandelier is cleaned with particular care as it cannot be detached in most designs, and dust gathers on it from above where a regular wipe does not reach.
- Base and brass cup
The brass cup and the surround at the suspension point are treated, as dirt and heat tarnish from the bulbs collect there over time.
- Glass fittings and their holders
Glass fittings and bulb covers are detached and washed, and their brass holders are cleaned inside where a fine layer of dust hides.
- Decorative details and engravings
Engravings and decorative patterns trap dust and tarnish in their recesses and a wipe cannot reach them, so these details are cleaned with fine tools suited to their shapes.
- Bulb sockets and surrounds
The areas around the bulb sockets are wiped free of settled dust, a spot often missed in everyday cleaning even though it is visible from below.
How do we start?
Three simple steps, and we take care of the rest.
Call or message us on WhatsApp
Tell us the service you need and your district.
Tell us about the chandelier
Tell us what you notice, roughly how high the ceiling is, whether the chandelier is in a reception room or a bedroom, and which district you are in.
We agree a time and you prepare
We settle on a time that suits you, and you clear furniture and soft furnishings from under the chandelier and switch off the electricity to it before we arrive.
The work and what to check after
We detach the removable parts, clean every brass surface and reassemble. Check afterwards that all parts are firmly in place and that the brass colour is even across the surface.
A service that comes to your door
- We come to youOur team arrives at your home with its equipment.
- One callCall or message us on WhatsApp and we arrange the rest.
- Soft furnishings and chandeliers, one teamWe clean crystal chandeliers, sofas, carpets, wall-to-wall carpets, curtains and mattresses in the same home.
- Describe it in your own wordsA call or a WhatsApp message is enough to tell us what you see in your brass chandelier.
One worry is that cleaning brass might scratch the surface or leave the colour uneven. Brass has its own character and is cleaned with tools suited to it. What you check after the work is that the colour is even again and free of tarnish. Leave the work to us.

Questions about Brass chandelier cleaning
My brass chandelier has gone green in some places, is that normal?
Yes, the green colour is verdigris, which forms on brass when it reacts with moisture and air. It appears most often in recesses, engravings or around joints. It does not harm the structure but it does mean the outer layer of brass needs treatment, not just a surface wipe.
How do I know my brass chandelier needs cleaning and not just a wipe?
If the colour stays dark or patchy after wiping, or green patches appear in the recesses or engravings, or you notice the arms and crown have lost their even brass tone, those are signs that oxidation has gone past the dust layer and needs more than a surface wipe.
What should I prepare before the brass chandelier cleaning appointment?
Clear furniture, rugs and soft furnishings from under the chandelier and leave enough space to work below it. Switch off the electricity to the chandelier before the appointment. If the ceiling is high, tell us when you call so we can prepare for that.
Does the size of the brass chandelier change what the service involves?
Yes, the size of the chandelier, the number of arms and the detail in the engravings all affect how the work goes. When you call or message us we ask about the size, design and ceiling height so we can agree on what suits your particular chandelier.
My brass chandelier has glass fittings, are those cleaned too?
Yes, glass fittings and bulb covers are detached and washed separately, and their brass holders are cleaned from the inside. Fine dust builds up inside those holders without showing on the outside until it becomes thick, and cleaning them brings the full light back through the glass.
