Small spatula filling a hairline crack on a chipped marble tile edge

Marble restoration

A chipped edge or a crack in the marble surface cannot be fixed by polishing alone. Marble restoration brings back the strength and the look of the surface before anything else.

About the service

A crack does not vanish with polishing alone

When a marble tile chips at the edge or the surface cracks, it reveals something about the stone itself: marble is a calcium-based rock that responds to impact, heat expansion and movement in the substrate beneath it. The wide gap between summer temperatures and air-conditioned interiors speeds up that expansion and contraction cycle, which is why fine cracks appear in many homes over time.

Tell us what you see in the marble, where it is, how wide and what kind, and let us know your district. We agree a time that suits you, and we take care of the assessment and the restoration from start to finish.

  • Gaps and voids
  • Edges and corners

What does marble restoration cover?

These are the stages and parts the restoration work goes through, depending on the condition of the marble and the extent of the damage you see.

  • Surface and crack assessment

We start by reading the depth and direction of the crack, and whether it sits in the tile alone or runs into the mortar bed beneath, because the repair method depends on that difference.

  • Cleaning and preparing the break

We clear dust and debris from inside the crack or chip before filling it, because anything left behind stops the repair from bonding properly and the difference shows later.

  • Filling cracks and voids

Cracks and voids are filled with a material matched as closely as possible to the marble colour, which stops the crack from widening and keeps moisture from working its way inside.

  • Edge and corner repair

Marble tile edges are the first to chip on impact, and repairing them means reshaping and sanding the edge back to match the rest of the surface.

  • Joint and grout restoration

Cracked or worn joints between marble tiles allow water in and let the tile shift, so restoring them is part of stabilising the whole surface.

  • Sanding and levelling

After the repair we sand the surface flat to remove any raised spot at the repair site, which is the step that prepares the marble for polishing if that is needed afterwards.

How do we start?

Three simple steps, and we take care of the rest.

  1. Call or message us on WhatsApp

Tell us the service you need and your district.

  2. Describe the damage in your own words

Tell us where the crack or chip is, whether it is on the floor, the stairs or another surface, and which district you are in.

  3. We agree a time and you prepare

We settle on a time that works for you, and you move furniture and rugs away from the area to be restored and leave enough room to reach it.

  4. Restoration and a final check

We repair the crack or chip, level the surface, then ask you to check the spot yourself to confirm the look and feel sit well with the marble around it.

The whole home from one company

One worry is that the repair will show and give away where the restoration was done. Matching the fill material to the marble colour and sanding the spot level afterwards are what bring the repaired area close to the rest of the surface. Tell us the type and colour of your marble and leave the assessment of what is achievable to us.

Questions about Marble restoration

How do I know my marble needs restoration rather than polishing?

If there is a gap, a break or a crack you can feel with your finger, that needs restoration before polishing. Dull areas and fine surface scratches you cannot feel usually need polishing only. If you are unsure, describe what you see and we will assess it with you.

Are hairline cracks in marble a problem if left alone?

A hairline crack looks minor but it opens a path for water, and daily cleaning moisture works its way in. Over time the crack widens and becomes harder to restore, so treating it early involves less work than waiting until it grows.

What should I prepare before you arrive to restore the marble?

Move furniture, rugs and objects away from the area to be restored and make sure the lighting is good enough to see the surface clearly. If the repair is in a bathroom or kitchen, clear the area around the damaged tile as much as you can.

Can a fully broken tile be restored or does it have to be replaced?

A tile that has split into pieces still in place can often be re-bonded and the joints filled. If a piece is missing or the tile has shattered badly, replacement may be needed, and that becomes clear during a direct look at it.

What should I check at the repaired spot after the work is done?

Run your finger over the repaired spot and check it sits flush with the surface around it with no raised edge. Look at it from different angles in the light to check that the colour sits consistently. If you notice any raised area or gap after it has fully dried, let us know and we will follow up.
