Natural marble polishing

Has the sheen gone from the natural marble floor in your home, or do scratches now catch the light? That is what happens to limestone and travertine tiles with daily use over time.

About the service

Natural marble loses its shine not its colour

Natural marble such as limestone and travertine is made up of fine mineral layers. Daily foot traffic and routine cleaning wear down that outer layer and spread tiny scratches that scatter light instead of reflecting it evenly. That dull look is not dirt: it is surface wear, and cleaning alone will not reverse it.

Call or message us on WhatsApp with the type of marble, whether flooring or wall cladding, and your district. We agree a time that suits you and you come back to an even sheen across the whole area.

What does natural marble polishing cover?

These are the stages natural marble polishing goes through, varying with the condition of the surface, the type of marble and what you notice in it.

  • Surface assessment

We inspect the floor or wall cladding to find where the dullness and scratches are, whether there are stains, and whether the pores are open, because natural marble varies from slab to slab even in the same room.

  • Staged grinding and honing

Honing removes the layer of fine scratches using discs of progressively finer grades, which levels the surface before polishing begins.

  • Polishing and sheen restoration

After honing, the surface is polished so that light reflects evenly from it again, which is what sets polishing apart from a regular clean.

  • Travertine pore treatment

Travertine is naturally porous and has small cavities. When needed these are filled before polishing, because leaving them open causes dirt to collect again faster.

  • Acid and limescale stain removal

Lemon, vinegar and tap-water marks etch limestone because it reacts to acids. We address these stains before polishing, because leaving them blocks an even result.

  • Final protective coat

After polishing, a sealer coat is applied to slow moisture from entering the marble's pores, which extends how long the sheen lasts.

How do we start?

Three simple steps, and we take care of the rest.

  1. Call or message us on WhatsApp

Tell us the service you need and your district.

  2. Tell us the marble type and its condition

Tell us the type of natural marble if you know it, whether flooring or wall cladding, what you notice such as dullness, scratches or stains, and which district you are in.

  3. Agree a time and prepare the area

We agree a suitable time with you. Before we arrive, clear the floor of furniture and rugs so the whole surface can be covered.

  4. We work and you check the result

We carry out the honing, polishing and sealing stages, then point out the treated areas so you can check the sheen and evenness yourself before we leave.

The whole home from one company

One worry is that polishing will damage the marble, especially limestone and travertine which are known to be sensitive surfaces. That concern is answered by matching the work stage to the actual condition of the surface, not running the same process on every floor. Tell us what you notice, and leave the assessment to us.

Questions about Natural marble polishing

How do I know natural marble needs polishing rather than just cleaning?

If the surface stays dull after normal wiping, the problem is likely in the surface layer itself rather than dirt. Cleaning removes what sits on top, while polishing re-levels the worn surface. If fine scratches are visible or the light reflection is uneven, cleaning alone will not fix it.

Does travertine need different treatment from other natural marble?

Yes. Travertine has natural holes and pores that make it look different from smooth limestone. Before polishing, those cavities often need to be filled first, otherwise they collect dirt again quickly. We check for this when we inspect your surface.

Do white water marks from the tap come off with polishing?

Limescale tap water is common on natural marble. Some deposits sit on top and come away with honing, but if the water or an acidic cleaner has etched into the surface, the mark needs treating before polishing. Tell us where the stains are when you call so we can agree the right approach.

What should I prepare before you arrive?

Clear the floor of furniture, rugs and coverings, and let us know if there are heavy pieces that need advance arrangements. If the marble is on walls, remove pictures or frames close to the area being treated.

What makes the price of natural marble polishing vary from home to home?

The price depends on how much natural marble needs polishing, the type and condition of the marble, how easy the surface is to reach, and whether extra treatments are needed such as filling travertine pores or removing deep stains. We agree on the details when you call and explain what you need.
