The staircase is walked every day, and the marble shows it
Stair marble is different from a room floor: each tread takes the full weight of a foot at the same point again and again, and the nosing at the front edge wears through constant friction. Those spots go dull first, then develop fine scratches, while the untouched edges stay darker and shinier by comparison. Fine dust carried in from outside acts like sandpaper on the surface with every step.
We start by hearing what you notice on your staircase, then we take care of polishing the treads, edges and risers. Call or message us on WhatsApp, tell us your district and the number of floors, and we agree a time with you.

What does stair marble polishing cover?
These are the parts the polishing covers on a marble staircase, depending on the surface condition and what you notice in the way of dullness or scratches.
- Tread surfaces
We polish the flat walking surface of each tread, the part that bears the most friction and goes dull first, and it usually needs more work than any other part of the stair.
- Tread nosings and edges
The front edge of each tread takes the sharpest load from each step and develops horizontal scratches. We polish it back in stages to restore the shine.
- Risers
The vertical face between two treads collects dust and gradually loses its sheen. We include it in the polishing so the whole step ends up at the same level of shine.
- Landings and transition pieces
A landing at the top or between floors is treated as its own surface because it is wider and people stand on it. We polish it alongside the stair so the marble matches.
- Corners and cut edges
Inside corners and mitred cuts at turns need hand work because a machine cannot reach them. We polish those areas by hand in the appropriate way.
- Side skirt panels
The marble skirt panel that runs along the outside of the staircase collects dust and loses its shine just like the treads. We include it in the job when it is needed.

One worry is whether the staircase will be blocked and the household cut off for the whole job. The order in which sections are worked and how movement is kept open is agreed with you when the appointment is set, so the disruption is kept to what is necessary. Leave the rest to us.

Questions about Stair marble polishing
How do I know the stair marble needs polishing and not just cleaning?
If the tread surface still looks dull after cleaning, or you feel a slight roughness underfoot in the middle of the step, or you can see fine lines in the direction of travel, that is surface wear that water will not remove. Dust and surface marks are a different matter and a wipe handles those.
Are curved or spiral stairs polished the same way as straight stairs?
No. Curved stairs have mitred pieces and tight angles that a machine cannot reach, so they need more hand work. That affects the time and the details you agree when you call. Tell us the shape of the staircase so we can prepare for it.
What should I prepare on the staircase before you arrive?
Remove any rugs, mats and items left on the steps, and leave a clear path from the bottom to the top. If the staircase runs past a wardrobe or heavy furniture, tell us in advance so we can plan around it.
Will the centre of the tread look different from the edges after polishing?
Before polishing the centre is duller because it gets the most use. Polishing brings the whole surface to an even level of shine, which is why the full tread is done rather than just the worn middle. If there are deep scratches at particular points we discuss those with you when agreeing the job.
What determines the price of stair marble polishing?
The price depends on the number of steps and floors, the shape of the stair whether straight, curved or spiral, the condition of the surface in terms of scratch depth and how dull it is, and how easily the steps can be reached. You tell us all of that when you call and we agree a price.
