Pool water treatment

Is your pool water cloudy or off-colour, and adding chlorine has not helped? An imbalance in the water chemistry is often the cause, and we restore it for you.

About the service

The water loses balance before you spot the reason

Pool water is not simply a clear liquid; it is a delicate chemical solution that shifts with the intense sun, the dust that settles on the surface, and the number of people using the pool. When the pH rises or falls, or the chlorine loses its strength, the water turns cloudy and algae begin to settle on the walls and floor.

Describe what you notice in your water: its colour, clarity and smell, and tell us the pool's size and your district. Call or message us on WhatsApp and we agree a time, then we take care of the rest.

What does pool water treatment cover?

These are the stages pool water treatment goes through, based on the condition of your pool and what you describe when you call.

  • pH level check

The pH is measured first because it controls how effective the chlorine is. When pH is too high the chlorine stops working; when it is too low the water irritates skin and eyes.

  • Free chlorine adjustment

We measure and adjust the active free chlorine, not the total, because chlorine already bound to contaminants gives no protection and only a separate reading tells them apart.

  • Cloudiness and sediment treatment

Cloudiness usually comes from tiny particles suspended in the water that the filter cannot catch alone. A clarifier is added to clump the particles so they settle to the floor and can be vacuumed out.

  • Green algae treatment

Algae settle first in corners, on walls and on the floor, and their presence means the chlorine or pH has drifted out of range. A shock dose treats the water, and the walls and floor are then brushed and vacuumed.

  • Total alkalinity check

Total alkalinity stabilises the pH and stops it from swinging sharply. Low alkalinity makes pH unstable; high alkalinity makes it hard to adjust. Correcting it comes before adjusting the pH.

  • Filter and pump check

The filter and the pump are partners in water treatment; if either slows or stops, the treatment loses its effect. We check that the circulation is running normally and flag anything that points to filter maintenance being needed.

How do we start?

Three simple steps, and we take care of the rest.

  1. Call or message us on WhatsApp

Tell us the service you need and your district.

  2. Describe the water

Tell us the colour and clarity of the water, any smell, whether you see green on the walls or floor, which district you are in, and the approximate size of the pool.

  3. We agree a time

We settle a time with you. It helps to have the pool accessible and the filtration system running beforehand if it is working, so the circulation is active when we arrive.

  4. We carry out the treatment

We measure the water's indicators and adjust what is needed, then we tell you what we found and what we corrected. After the work, check the clarity and colour of the water once enough time has passed for it to circulate through the filter.

Questions about Pool water treatment

I added chlorine but the water stayed cloudy, why?

Chlorine does not remove cloudiness directly; cloudiness comes from tiny suspended particles that are not always related to chlorine levels. The pH may be out of range, making the chlorine ineffective, or the particles need a clarifier to clump them together. Diagnosing the cause starts with reading the pH, alkalinity and free chlorine together.

How do I know the water needs treatment and not just replacing?

If the water was filled recently but turned cloudy or the walls greened quickly, the cause is usually a chemical imbalance rather than the water itself being worn out. Replacing the water without correcting the balance brings the problem back; treatment fixes the root cause.

Do I need to drain the pool before treatment?

For most water treatment cases the pool does not need to be drained; the treatment works on the water already in it. Draining is considered when contamination is very high or balance cannot be restored. The details become clear once you describe the condition of the water to us.

Does treating an outdoor pool in direct sun change anything?

Yes; the strong ultraviolet light breaks down free chlorine faster in uncovered pools. This is taken into account when setting the chlorine level needed, and treatment is best carried out in the evening or when direct sun is off the pool surface.

Does the pool size affect how the treatment is done?

Yes, the volume of water determines the amounts needed for each chemical adjustment. That is why we ask for the approximate size when you call, and the rest of the details become clear after the assessment. A large pool differs from a small one in the number of readings taken and the quantities adjusted.
