Terrazzo mosaic floor in a hallway being ground and polished with a diamond-pad machine

Mosaic polishing

Has your mosaic tiling lost its sheen, looking dull or showing fine scratches? Its composite make-up needs polishing suited to that surface, and we handle it for you.

About the service

Mosaic loses its shine because its surface is different

Mosaic tile is made from multiple materials and granules pressed together, and this composition means its surface absorbs fine dust and traps cleaning product residue inside its pores. Over time, and under the sun and summer heat, these layers build up and the surface looks flat and dull, with fine scratches appearing that were not there before.

Call or message us on WhatsApp, tell us your district, the type of floor and the area you want polished. We take care of the rest and agree a time that suits you.

What does mosaic polishing cover?

These are the parts and steps the work goes through on a mosaic floor, depending on the condition of the surface and what you notice in it.

  • Surface assessment

We begin by examining the mosaic surface to judge how deep the scratches are and how dull it has become, because every floor's condition shapes the steps needed.

  • Initial grinding

The worn top layer of the mosaic is carefully removed, because that is where the scratches and stains that ordinary cleaning cannot lift are sitting.

  • Surface smoothing

After the initial grind, the surface goes through graduated stages to smooth protruding granules and level the roughness that catches dirt and gives mosaic its dull look.

  • Polishing the composite

The composite surface is polished in a way that suits its mixed materials, because mosaic usually contains components of different hardness that need even treatment.

  • Joints and edges

We treat the joints between mosaic pieces and the edges near walls, because they collect dirt and show a different colour after polishing if they are left untreated.

  • Protective layer

A protective coating is applied after polishing to close the mosaic's pores and give it a sheen that holds up longer against the daily dust.

How do we start?

Three simple steps, and we take care of the rest.

  1. Call or message us on WhatsApp

Tell us the service you need and your district.

  2. Tell us what you notice

Describe what you see on your mosaic floor: dullness, scratches or stains that will not shift, and tell us your district and the approximate area.

  3. We agree a time

We settle on a time that suits you, and you prepare the room by moving light furniture out and clearing access to the whole floor.

  4. We start the work

We polish the surface, treat the joints, then ask you to walk the floor and look in natural light to confirm the dullness is gone.

Questions about Mosaic polishing

How do I know my mosaic needs polishing and not just cleaning?

If the surface stays dull after ordinary cleaning, fine scratches do not disappear with wiping, or the granules feel rough to the touch, the top layer has likely worn and only polishing restores it. Cleaning removes dirt; polishing treats the surface itself.

Is bathroom mosaic polished the same way as mosaic in a hallway?

Both are mosaic, but bathroom mosaic is exposed to constant moisture and the hard water scale common, which adds a deposit layer that needs different treatment before polishing begins. Tell us the room when you call so we can agree the right steps.

Do I need to empty the room completely before mosaic polishing?

Clearing the furniture makes the whole floor accessible and stops polishing dust settling on valuables. Heavy pieces that cannot be moved are worked around, and it helps to mention them when you agree the time.

Do deep scratches in mosaic disappear with polishing?

Fine surface scratches usually disappear after polishing because they sit in the top layer only. Deep scratches that reach into the mosaic granules or cut through the binding between materials may lessen without disappearing entirely, and we assess that after inspection and agree with you on what is achievable.

What affects the scope of work and price estimate for mosaic polishing?

The floor area and the surface condition matter: how deep the scratches are, how dull it is, and whether there is scale or old cleaning product build-up. The presence of furniture and how easily corners and edges can be reached also play a part. All these details are agreed when you call and describe the floor.
