Stair washing

Stairs take more foot traffic than almost any other surface in a building, and sweeping alone does not lift what settles into the joints and edges. We wash them for you.

About the service

Sweeping is not enough, the stairs need washing

The fine dust settles into tile joints and along the raised edges of every step, and foot traffic adds a layer of grease and dark grime on top. Over time that build-up becomes a stain that resists sweeping and ordinary wiping, especially on marble and light-coloured porcelain tiles.

Call or message us on WhatsApp, tell us the number of floors, the surface type and what you notice on the stairs, and we agree a time that suits you, then we take care of the rest.

What does stair washing cover?

These are the parts the washing goes through, depending on the surface type, the condition of the stairs and what you notice in them.

  • Each step surface

We wash the full face of each step to lift accumulated dirt and the dark patches that form from repeated foot traffic, which show most on light-coloured tiles.

  • Step edges

The protruding edge of each step takes more knocks and friction than the rest, and compressed grime builds up there and needs specific attention.

  • Tile and ceramic joints

The lines between tiles trap dust and stains and darken over time. Washing them restores their definition and stops dirt building up further.

  • The handrail and its posts

The handrail is touched every day and picks up grease and fingerprints. Whether it is iron, wood or stainless steel, we wipe it in the way that suits its material.

  • The wall alongside the stairs

The narrow wall beside the stairs also picks up scuffs and repeated hand marks at shoulder height. We clean it as part of the wash because it is part of what a visitor sees.

  • The landing floor

The landing between floors becomes a collecting point for dirt coming from the steps in both directions. We wash it with the stairs because the result is not complete without it.

How do we start?

Three simple steps, and we take care of the rest.

  1. Call or message us on WhatsApp

Tell us the service you need and your district.

  2. Tell us about the stairs

Tell us the surface type (tiles, marble, ceramic), how many floors, whether the stairs are inside a home or in a shared building, and what stains or dirt you have noticed.

  3. We agree a time and you prepare

We settle on a time that suits you, and you make sure the stairs are free of movement during the work and that access to a water supply is available.

  4. We wash and you check

We wash the steps, handrail, wall and landing, then you check the edges, joints and handrail with us before we finish to make sure everything looks right.

Questions about Stair washing

How do I know the stairs need washing and not just sweeping?

If dark marks stay along the edges and joints after sweeping and ordinary wiping, the dirt has turned into a sticky layer that only washing removes. Another sign is that the tile joints have turned dark grey or black despite regular cleaning.

Does the stair surface type change the way washing is done?

Yes. Marble is porous and needs care to prevent liquid soaking in, porcelain is harder and less absorbent, and older ceramic joints can be more absorbent. That is why we ask for the surface type when you call, so we come prepared for the material.

What should I prepare before the stair washing appointment?

Clear the stairs of objects and temporary mats and make sure access to a water point is available. If the stairs are in a shared building, it helps to let neighbours know so they are not caught by the washing while moving around.

The steps feel sticky after washing, is that normal?

A sticky feeling after washing usually means residue from old grime was not fully lifted on the first pass, which can happen with stairs that have not been washed for a long time. Tell us at the end of the job and we agree on how to address it.

Are shared building stairs different from stairs inside a private home?

Shared building stairs take more traffic and more dust, and often have layers of built-up grime because they are swept rather than washed for long periods. They also need coordination with building management or neighbours, unlike stairs inside a private home. These details are sorted when you call.
