Gloved hand scrubbing a dark mould patch from a bathroom ceiling corner

Wall mould removal

A green or black patch has appeared in a bathroom corner or behind a cupboard? Mould roots into the surface, and removing it means treating the wall, not painting over it.

About the service

Mould does not go away when you paint over it

Summers bring humidity, and many homes have bathrooms and kitchens with limited ventilation. That combination lets mould take hold in porous surfaces. Mould is not a surface stain; it grows into plaster, grout and the fine gaps between tiles, which is why painting over it brings it back within weeks.

Call or message us on WhatsApp, tell us your district, where in the home the mould is, and whether the wall is plaster, ceramic or wood, and we agree a time that works for you.

  • Bathrooms and kitchens
  • Corners and cracks
  • Plaster and tiles

What does wall mould removal cover?

These are the surfaces and parts the work covers, depending on where the mould is and what the wall is made of.

  • Plastered and painted walls

The affected layer is cleaned and mould stains are removed from the surface, because porous plaster holds moisture and lets mould spread under the paint.

  • Ceramic tiles and grout

The grout lines between tiles get particular attention, as they turn black or green when moisture and soap residue build up in them.

  • Bathroom and kitchen corners

Corners are the most exposed part of the wall because air barely moves there, and they need careful work to remove mould that has grown into the joint.

  • Low ceiling edge

The join between the wall and ceiling in bathrooms is often where mould starts, because steam collects at the top of the room before anywhere else.

  • Wall behind furniture

Walls behind wardrobes and beds suffer from poor airflow and trapped moisture, so the furniture is moved to reach and clean the hidden surface.

  • Cracks and narrow edges

Fine cracks in plaster or around door frames hold moisture and are treated during the clean, because leaving them lets mould restart from the same point.

How do we start?

Three simple steps, and we take care of the rest.

  1. Call or message us on WhatsApp

Tell us the service you need and your district.

  2. Tell us where the mould is

Tell us which room the mould is in, whether the surface is plaster, ceramic or another material, roughly how large the area is, and which district you are in.

  3. We agree a time and you prepare

We agree a time that suits you, and you clear the area of small furniture and anything moveable, and open windows if possible to prepare good ventilation.

  4. We treat the wall and you check

The affected surfaces are cleaned and mould is treated in the plaster, grout and corners. Afterwards, check the surface in good light and let us know if any patch has been missed.

The whole home from one company

One worry is that mould will come back after cleaning. It comes back when the root stays in the pores or when surface moisture has not been fully dealt with. That is why the work focuses on treating the surface rather than masking the stain. Describe the wall to us and leave the rest to us.

Questions about Wall mould removal

How do I know what I see is mould and not just damp or dirt?

Mould usually appears as green, black or grey patches with a rough or fuzzy texture, and often comes with a musty or earthy smell even in a closed room. Damp tends to look like a watermark or a pale grey discolouration without any texture. If you are not sure, describe what you see when you contact us and we can help you work it out.

Is mould in a bathroom worse than mould in a bedroom?

Bathroom mould is more common because of constant steam and moisture, but mould grows on plaster and grout in any room where moisture builds up without enough ventilation. Mould in bedrooms, behind furniture or in window corners, needs the same treatment.

Will I need to repaint after the mould is removed?

That depends on how deep the mould has gone. In many cases the wall is cleaned and the mark disappears without repainting. When the mould is old and has gone deep, a colour shadow may remain and you will see that for yourself once the work is done. Cleaning and repainting are two separate steps.

Does mould on plaster differ from mould on tiles?

Yes. Plaster is porous and absorbs moisture, so mould takes hold deeper and the surface needs careful treatment. Tiles themselves are hard and non-porous, so mould concentrates in the grout lines between them, which are narrow and need precise tools to reach properly.

What should I prepare before the clean if the mould is in a small bathroom?

Move small items, towels and toiletries away from the work area, open the window if there is one, and let us know if the bathroom is internal with no window, so we can take that into account. There is no need to empty the bathroom completely.
