Soot does not go with ordinary wiping
The dark layer that builds above a hob or around a kitchen extractor is not dust. It is a greasy film that bakes onto plaster or paint over time. In bathrooms, steam from hot water turns into dark grey patches in corners and along the ceiling edge. Wiping with water alone lifts the surface layer and leaves the rest locked into the wall.
Tell us where the soot is, what the surface is, and what you have noticed. Call or message us on WhatsApp, tell us your district, and we agree a time with you.

- Bathroom steam
- Paint and plaster
What does wall soot removal cover?
These are the surfaces and parts the work covers, depending on the condition of the wall, the surface type and where the soot came from.
- Wall above the hob
This section collects airborne grease and smoke together, and they soak into the paint or plaster, so it needs direct treatment before the rest of the wall.
- Area around the extractor
The extractor does not catch all steam and grease, and what escapes clings to the wall and the ceiling near it, making this area one of the heaviest spots for soot build-up.
- Bathroom corners and edges
Steam condenses in corners and where the wall meets the ceiling, concentrating there over time and turning the surface dark grey.
- Paint and plaster types
Rough plaster traps soot deeper than smooth paint, so the method differs between surfaces, and we ask about the surface type to match the work to it.
- Surfaces near heat sources
A wall next to an oven or hob is exposed to both direct heat and grease, which makes the soot layer there more fixed and harder to lift.
- External kitchen wall
In some homes smoke marks extend to the external wall or the corridor next to the kitchen, and we include those areas in the work when you mention them when you call.
How do we start?
Three simple steps, and we take care of the rest.
Call or message us on WhatsApp
Tell us the service you need and your district.
Describe the wall and the soot
Tell us where the soot is, whether it is in the kitchen or bathroom, the surface type if you know it, and which district you are in.
Agree a time and prepare
We settle on a time that suits you, and you move furniture and objects away from the wall to be cleaned and leave clear access to it.
We work, you check after
We clean the wall and remove the soot layer, and afterwards you look at the surface in good light to check that the discolouration you noticed is gone.
A service that comes to your door
- We come to youOur team arrives at your home with its equipment.
- One callCall or message us on WhatsApp and we arrange the rest.
- We handle the rest of your walls and ceilings tooWall mould removal, wall graffiti removal, ceiling cleaning and stair washing are all done by the same team.
- Just describe what you seeCall or send a WhatsApp message describing the soot and the wall, and we agree on what suits you.
One worry is that cleaning might damage the paint or scratch the plaster underneath. The surface varies from one wall to the next, so we ask about it before we start to match the treatment to it. Leave the rest to us.

Questions about Wall soot removal
How do I know the wall needs soot cleaning rather than repainting?
If the colour change is limited to an area close to a heat or steam source and has not spread across the whole wall, the cause is likely soot rather than paint flaking or breaking down. When you call, tell us exactly what you see and we help you work it out.
Is kitchen soot above the hob different from bathroom steam stains?
Yes, kitchen soot carries burnt grease that bonds to the surface more firmly, while bathroom marks come from water vapour and accumulated moisture. This difference in origin affects how the work is done, which is why we ask where the soot is when you contact us.
What should I prepare in the kitchen before the appointment?
Move pots, utensils and anything stored on the shelf or worktop near the wall, clear the area around the hob as much as you can, and tell us if there are wall cabinets above the section to be cleaned.
Will the wall colour look different after cleaning?
Once the soot layer is removed the wall shows its original colour, which means the cleaned area can look lighter than the surrounding sections that were not cleaned. It helps to tell us how large the affected area is when you call.
Will the soot come back if I keep using the kitchen?
Cleaning removes what has built up so far, and how quickly soot returns depends on ventilation, how well the extractor works, and how the hob is used. A wall cleaned at regular intervals stays lighter than one left untreated for a long time.
