Outside-tank insulation

Does your water run hot in summer even when the tank is full? Heat enters through the outer surface, and outside-tank insulation blocks that path.

About the service

Heat enters from outside Outside insulation stops it

Rooftops receive direct sun for long hours in summer, and a tank's outer walls absorb that heat and pass it straight into the water. That explains why your water runs warm even when the tank was filled recently. The fix starts on the outside surface, not the inside.

Call or message us on WhatsApp, tell us your district, the type of tank and what you are noticing, and we agree a time. We clean the outer surface and apply the insulation layers to the walls, base and lid, so your water returns to a bearable temperature.

What does outside-tank insulation cover?

These are the parts the work goes through in outside-tank insulation, depending on the surface condition and the type of tank.

  • Cleaning the outer surface

We remove dust, dirt and any flaking old layers from the outside walls, because insulation does not bond well to a dirty or crumbling surface.

  • The external walls

We apply the insulation layers to all the outside walls of the tank, the largest surface exposed to sun and the main route for heat reaching the water.

  • The base of the tank

We treat the underside of the tank where access allows, since it faces rising damp from the roof surface and can develop leaks or corrosion over time.

  • The tank lid

We insulate the lid or top face of the tank, which receives direct solar radiation and is a large entry point for heat.

  • Joints and edges

We check and treat the edges around the lid and the joints between walls, as these are the first places to crack and let heat through.

  • Check after application

Once the work is done we inspect the insulated surface with you to confirm full coverage and that no area has been left exposed.

How do we start?

Three simple steps, and we take care of the rest.

  1. Call or message us on WhatsApp

Tell us the service you need and your district.

  2. Tell us about your tank

Tell us what you notice, whether the water is hot or there is damp around the tank, which district you are in, and the type and rough size of your tank.

  3. We agree a time

We settle on a time that suits you, and you make sure the outside of the tank is accessible from all sides and that water is not being drawn from it during the work if possible.

  4. We work and check the result

We clean the outside walls, base and lid, apply the insulation layers, then inspect the surface with you afterwards to make sure the coverage is complete.

Questions about Outside-tank insulation

My water runs warm in summer, is the outside insulation the problem?

In most cases yes, if the tank sits on the roof and is exposed to sun the outer walls absorb heat and pass it straight to the water. Outside-tank insulation slows that heat transfer significantly. Call us, tell us the tank type and its position, and we agree on the right approach.

What affects the cost of outside-tank insulation?

The price depends on the size of the tank's outer surface, the material it is made of, the condition of any existing coating, and how easily all sides and the base can be reached. We agree on the cost after you describe your tank when you call.

Does the tank need to be empty before outside insulation?

The work is done on the outer surface and does not require entering the tank, but it is helpful to reduce the draw from it while the coating is being applied if that is possible. We agree the details with you when you fix the time.

Is outside insulation enough on its own, or do I need inside insulation too?

Outside-tank insulation addresses heat entering through the outer walls, while inside-tank insulation deals with seepage and contamination from the inner wall surface. The two cases are different, and many tanks need both. Tell us what you notice and we agree on what your tank needs.

What should I check after my tank has been insulated from the outside?

Once the insulation layers have dried, check visually that all outer walls and the lid are fully covered with no exposed patches or cracks. Then notice the water temperature over the following days; the change in heat becomes clear once the layers have fully cured.
