heat reaches your water tank
In the summer air temperature makes exposed rooftop tanks heat the water until it runs warm at the tap. The daily swing between daytime heat and cool nights causes materials to expand and contract repeatedly, opening fine cracks in concrete and stress points in steel tank welds, and water seeps out slowly from there.
Dust, humidity and direct sunlight together speed up the breakdown of the tank's outer surface, while the constant moisture inside gradually weakens the bond of concrete over time. Proper insulation breaks this cycle: it reflects heat from the outside, seals cracks from the inside, and stops water moving in either direction.
Below you will find the types we insulate and the materials suited to each situation. Read the description, choose what matches your tank, then call or message us on WhatsApp. Tell us the tank type, where it is and what you have noticed, and we agree a time with you.
- Ground and rooftop tanks
- Concrete, fibreglass and steel
- Inside and outside insulation
Your tank type determines the right insulation
Choose from the list below what matches your tank by its position, its material, or the type of insulation you need.
- Ground-tank insulationYour tank is buried or at ground level and needs insulation that handles soil pressure and constant ground moisture.
- Epoxy tank insulationYou need a hard coating applied from inside that seals cracks and protects a concrete or metal surface from corrosion.
- Inside-tank insulationWater is seeping from inside the tank or damp marks have appeared on the inner walls and you want to treat them at the source.
- Concrete-tank insulationYour tank is built from concrete and needs insulation that suits the material and closes any cracks that have formed in it.
- Outside-tank insulationYou want to protect the tank's outer wall from sun and heat, or from the soil and moisture surrounding it.
- Rooftop-tank insulationThe tank sits on the roof in direct sun and you want to reduce water heating and protect the tank walls from the heat.
- Fibreglass tank insulationYour tank is fibreglass and you notice cracks in its wall or the old insulation is no longer doing its job.
- Steel tank insulationYour tank is steel and you want to protect it from rust and corrosion caused by internal moisture or outside heat.
How do we start?
Three simple steps, and we take care of the rest.
Call or message us on WhatsApp
Tell us the service you need and your district.
Describe your tank
Tell us whether the tank is ground or rooftop, what it is made of, concrete, steel or fibreglass, and what you have noticed, whether that is leaking, warm water or damp on the walls.
We agree a time and you prepare
We settle on a time that suits you, and you drain the tank before the work and make sure the hatch or lid can be reached.
The work and what to check
The agreed surfaces are insulated and the material is left to dry fully before the tank is refilled. In the days after, check that no leaking or damp has returned to the walls or floor around the tank.
A service that comes to your door
- We come to youOur team arrives at your home with its equipment.
- One callCall or message us on WhatsApp and we arrange the rest.
- Every tank type with one teamWe insulate ground, rooftop, concrete, fibreglass and steel tanks, and we also clean and disinfect tanks and clean swimming pools.
- Describe your tank in your own wordsA call or a WhatsApp message describing what you notice is enough for us to agree on what suits your tank.
One worry is draining the tank and going without water for a long stretch. When you call we work out with you when it suits you to empty it and how much time you need to arrange an alternative supply, and we set the appointment around your household's needs.

Questions about Water tank insulation
How do I know my tank needs insulating?
Clear signs include water running warm in summer even when the tap has not been used for a while, damp patches appearing on walls next to the tank or on the ceiling below a rooftop tank, and visible cracks in a concrete tank body or rust marks around welds in a steel tank.
What is the difference between inside and outside tank insulation?
Inside insulation addresses cracks and pores that let water seep out through the tank wall, using materials rated for contact with drinking water. Outside insulation protects the wall from sun heat, moisture and soil, and reduces heat absorption that warms the stored water. Many tanks need both, and which is right is decided after seeing the tank's condition.
Does tank insulation paint work on all materials?
Tank insulation paint is generally suited to concrete and porous masonry and is applied inside to seal pores and stop seeping. On steel, other materials are preferred because they handle expansion and resist rust. On fibreglass the material differs again because the surface is not porous by nature. That is why we ask for the tank type before agreeing the approach.
Is cement tank insulation safe for drinking water?
Cement tank insulation is used in concrete tanks to seal cracks and strengthen the inner surface. Materials vary in their suitability for drinking water tanks. When you call, tell us whether the tank is for drinking or general use so we can agree on the right material.
What affects the price of tank insulation?
The price depends on the tank type, its material, its size, its position, whether ground or rooftop, how easy it is to reach, and whether inside or outside insulation or both are needed. All these details are agreed after you describe the tank to us.
Does the tank need cleaning before insulation?
Yes, the inner surface must be clean and free of deposits and algae for the insulation material to bond properly. If the tank has not been cleaned recently, water tank cleaning is a step that comes before insulation, and you can ask about it in the same enquiry when you call.
When can the tank be refilled after insulation?
Insulation needs time to dry fully before the tank is refilled, and that time varies with the material used, the temperature and the ventilation of the space. We explain this to you when the work is done so you do not refill before the coating is fully set.
